…As gang forces victim to transfer N200,000

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspects after foiling a robbery operation at a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area and recovered 11 iPhones and a laptop.

During the robbery operation, the gang was also said to have compelled one of the victims to transfer ₦200,000 into an account.

The suspects are Waris Dauda and Tiamiyu Abiodun.

They were arrested following an anonymous distress call reporting that an armed gang was robbing students in their hostel within the community.

Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta yesterday.

Babaseyi explained that the incident occurred on 13th September 2026 at about 0240hrs.

He said that upon receiving the information, operatives of Ewekoro Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer promptly dispatched to the scene.

The spokesperson said that on sighting the police operatives, the suspects abandoned their loot in a school bag and attempted to flee.

“However, the team pursued and successfully apprehended two suspects, identified as Waris Dauda, male, and Tiamiyu Abiodun, male.”

“A search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of eleven assorted iPhones, one HP laptop, and various items of clothing. Victims of the robbery have since identified their recovered property,” he said.

Babaseyi said that preliminary investigation revealed that during the robbery, the gang forced one of the victims to transfer the sum of ₦200,000 to an account.

He said that detectives have visited the crime scene, documented the forced entry, and secured the recovered exhibits.

“Search warrants executed at the suspects’ residences yielded no further incriminating items; both suspects and the recovered property are being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and prosecution,” Babaseyi added.

He stressed that the command had launched a manhunt to track down the fleeing gang members and locate the owner of the beneficiary account.

However, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Ewekoro operatives for their vigilance and timely response.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to public safety, assuring students and residents of an unyielding resolve to protect every part of the state from criminal elements.
