The families of fallen police officers in Rivers State have received ₦76,016,799.28 in financial support from the Nigeria Police Force as part of efforts to cushion the impact of losing their loved ones in the line of duty.

The cheques were presented by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu.

The intervention is aimed at providing financial assistance to beneficiaries of officers who died while serving the nation, with the Police Command describing the gesture as part of the Force’s welfare initiatives.

Speaking during the presentation, Adepoju said the sacrifices of the deceased officers would not be forgotten, while reaffirming the IGP’s commitment to the welfare of police personnel and their families.

According to him, officers who lose their lives in the course of protecting the country leave behind families whose welfare remains a responsibility of the institution they served.

The Commissioner commended the Inspector-General for prioritising the welfare of police personnel and the families of fallen officers, saying the financial assistance would provide support to beneficiaries at a difficult time.

The presentation was also an occasion to acknowledge the service of the deceased officers and the risks associated with policing.

The beneficiaries, in response, expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General and the Rivers State Commissioner of Police for the assistance.

They said the intervention demonstrated that the Nigeria Police Force had not forgotten the families of officers who died in service.

The Rivers Command reiterated its commitment to the welfare of its personnel and to honouring officers who paid the ultimate price in the service of the country.

The presentation was conducted under the Rivers State Police Command’s welfare effort.
