Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has directed his media team, supporters and political associates to stop mentioning or responding to other candidates seeking the senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kalu, in a directive issued through his office, said his re-election campaign should be built around his record of representation, legislative performance, infrastructure and human capital development across the five local government areas that make up the senatorial district.

The senator specifically directed members of his media team, supporters and affiliated groups to refrain from personal attacks, exchanges and responses to provocations involving other candidates.

He said the electorate was capable of assessing candidates based on their verifiable records, performance and capacity to deliver.

According to the statement signed by George Maduka of the Office of the Senator, Kalu wants his achievements, ongoing projects and plans for the future to speak for his candidacy.

The statement listed the construction and renovation of more than 100 school blocks and classrooms, provision of desks and other educational facilities, and the attraction of more than 70 road projects among the senator’s constituency interventions.

It also cited the distribution of educational materials, including STEM textbooks, school bags, sandals and uniforms to pupils across Abia North.

The senator’s office said more than 50 youths and other beneficiaries from the district had benefited from overseas scholarships, international training and capacity-building programmes facilitated through his representation.

It added that thousands of constituents had benefited from empowerment programmes involving the distribution of equipment, tools and other forms of economic support.

In healthcare, the statement said Kalu’s interventions had included access to free healthcare services for vulnerable constituents, while federal interventions had also been attracted to communities affected by erosion, flooding and other environmental challenges.

The senator’s legislative record was also highlighted as a major component of his representation since his election to the Senate in 2019.

Among the bills attributed to him are the Coastal and Inland Shipping (Cabotage) Act Amendment Bill, National Tax Crimes Commission Bill, National Food Bank Establishment Bill and the Compulsory Free Universal Basic Education Act Amendment Bill.

Others include bills seeking amendments to legislation on environmental standards and regulations and the Armed Forces Act, as well as proposals for the establishment of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu; Federal Polytechnic, Abiriba; Federal University of Medical Sciences and Biomedical Technology, Umunna, Bende; Federal University of Technology, Ovim; and Federal College of Agriculture, Isiochi.

The statement also listed the Nigeria Chinese Language Village Bill, Nigeria Women Trust Fund Bill and Social Welfare Service Bill among legislative proposals sponsored by the senator.

On motions, the office cited Kalu’s interventions on the rehabilitation of the Eastern Rail Line, rural water supply in Abia North, banking infrastructure, decentralisation of Nigeria’s electricity grid, healthcare access for vulnerable Nigerians and renewable energy for health centres.

Other issues addressed through motions, according to the statement, included compulsory use of body-worn cameras by law enforcement agencies, crude oil theft, illegal mining, maritime development, research and innovation.

Kalu consequently directed his campaign structure to remain focused on issues, development and service to the people.

“There should be no insults, personal attacks or responses to provocations,” the statement said, adding that other candidates should not be mentioned in statements issued by his media office or in campaign materials and commentaries by supporters acting on his behalf.

The senator expressed appreciation to the people of Arochukwu, Bende, Isuikwuato, Ohafia and Umunneochi for their support, saying the 2027 election should provide an opportunity for voters to assess his stewardship on the basis of verifiable achievements and his record in the National Assembly.
