Dangote empowers youths, awards scholarships

Dangote Cement has awarded multi-million naira scholarships and commenced training for youths in 15 host communities at the Ibese cement plant in Ogun State.

Dangote Cement has awarded multi-million naira scholarships and commenced training for youths in 15 host communities at the Ibese cement plant in Ogun State.

Director, Dangote Cement Ibese Plant, Azad Nawabuddin, said the gesture is in furtherance of its community youth empowerment scheme.
 
He said about 115 students in various institutions received cheques for their yearly scholarship award programme, while 30 others commenced skill acquisition training in tailoring and fashion designing, coordinated by the Industrial Trust Fund (ITF).    
 


He explained that the group has also made contributions to the socio-economic development of its neighbouring communities in areas of health, education and infrastructure, through the Dangote social investments.

According to him, Dangote Cement is committed to building capacity of the people and institutions in communities, particularly youths by identifying skill gaps and making them self-reliant.
 
He pointed out that the commencement of the training coincided with the flag-off of the 2021 Dangote Sustainability Week in Ibese Plant, with the theme ‘Building a sustainable future – the Dangote Way’, noting that “the sustainability activity is an employee volunteering programme.
