The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Alumni Association, Ondo, has unveiled the logo and theme for the inaugural Olusegun Mimiko Distinguished Alumni Lecture.

The theme, “Advancing Health Equity and Innovation: The Legacy of a Caring Heart”, was unveiled during a prelude ceremony that celebrated the vision and legacy of the institution’s founder, Dr Olusegun Mimiko.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Isaac Oluyi, the event drew principal officers of the university, alumni members, invited guests, and students to the university campus.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, who performed the unveiling, explained that both the theme and the logo were carefully crafted to reflect the “caring heart” of Mimiko, whose foundational vision birthed UNIMED and positioned the university at the epicentre of excellence in medical science education and healthcare delivery.

Adejuyigbe disclosed that she assumed office with a clear and ambitious vision to reposition the university for greater impact.

She emphasised her determination to transform UNIMED into a centre of excellence in teaching, research, and community service, while also leveraging technology to make the institution accessible to the global community.

The paediatrician further stated her aspiration to be remembered for moving the university to its permanent site, elevating it to become one of Nigeria’s top-rated universities, and establishing it as a formidable global brand whose impacts reverberate across nations and generations.

President of the UNIMED Alumni Association, Adedayo Adesida, who was represented by the Vice-President, Adebanke Ajagunna, described the lecture as a deliberate initiative to build a true alumni community while honouring the foundational vision of the institution’s founder.

He said, “Dr Olusegun Mimiko didn’t just build a university; he planted a tree so that a whole generation of medical and science professionals could sit in its shade.”
