President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election in the just-concluded Osun State governorship election, describing the victory as a confirmation of the confidence reposed in him by the people of the state.

Tinubu said Adeleke’s victory was a fitting assurance that democracy would continue to flourish in Nigeria under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

The President’s position was disclosed on Sunday in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, through his official X handle.

Tinubu said he had earlier called Adeleke to congratulate him on his electoral victory and wished him success as he prepares to lead the state for another four years.

“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” the President said.

He urged Adeleke to use his renewed mandate to unite the people of Osun State and mobilise them towards achieving growth, stability and social and economic development, irrespective of their political affiliations or choices during the election.

“Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election,” Tinubu said.

The President also commended other candidates who contested the election, praising them for what he described as courage and discipline throughout the electoral process.

According to him, the participation of the various candidates contributed to the deepening of Nigeria’s democratic culture, while the outcome reflected the choice of the electorate.

“I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election. Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture.

“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” he said.

Tinubu also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.
The Guardian had earlier reported that INEC declared Adeleke the winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Announcing the final results, the INEC Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, declared Adeleke elected after the candidate secured the highest number of votes.

Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who secured 444,815 votes.

The result gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes over Oyebamiji, triggering jubilation among his supporters and residents in different parts of the state.

With his re-election, Adeleke is set to continue as governor of Osun State for another four-year term, while the President urged him to make unity, stability and socio-economic development priorities of his administration.
