Educationist tasks graduating students on leadership, value-reorientation
An educationist and founder, City of Knowledge Academy (CKA), Ijebu Ode, Mrs. Mosun Belo-Olusoga, has said that character and integrity are essential ingredients of good leadership.
She urged graduating students to be exceptional and be guided by the positive habits and values imbibed in them.
Speaking at the 9th Honours Day celebration of CKA for its 2021/2022 graduating students, Belo-Olusoga, said the occasion was an opportunity to showcase the unique traits that make the school tick.
At the event themed: ‘Building exceptional leaders,’ the proprietress reminded us that “leadership plays a significant role in shaping our collective destiny, adding, “if we fail in our responsibilities of redirecting the current trajectory of leadership dearth, we will not be able to pull our nation out of the abyss of retrogression.”
Belo-Olusoga, who said the school has continuously insisted on positive habits and values, emphasised that character and integrity, in addition to academic excellence, as its watchword.
She recalled the successes recorded during the year, adding that diligence, consistency and faith in God made them possible.
The proprietress tasked the graduating students to keep the flag flying, saying they have been taught, groomed, and fortified to take on the world.
“You had the rare opportunity to pass through the tutelage of the best of teachers and acquired skills that can make you stand out anywhere in the world. It is now time to move on to the wall-less world, I charge you not to disappoint yourself, your parents, and all of us in CKA. You have all it takes, go and conquer your world.
“My joy and that of your parents is to always see you excel in all areas, not just in academics, but in other life endeavours and skills,” Belo-Olusoga said.
To create a conducive learning environment for students, the proprietress said plans are underway to commission the new boarding house building and multi-purpose sports complex for use of the students.
The guest speaker and founder, Westlake Consultants, Mrs. Toluope Akande-Sadipe, advised students to be committed to their studies for them to accomplish their dream and build leadership skills.
Akande-Sadipe noted that self-development, attitude and drawing knowledge from others would determine actions taken towards achieving their visions and goals.
“Once you have the vision of leadership, everything you do must be in line with that vision. You can’t afford to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. You must have self-development, and introduce something new, your attitude will determine whether you will achieve that vision or not”.
“Building an exceptional leader is not a position but a choice. Leaders are cultured with proven characters, they act in integrity, demonstrate accountability, and possibility, empower others and respond humbly,” she said.
Akande-Sadipe emphasised competency as demonstrable characteristic to improve the efficiency of a job as a leader.
She advised parents to teach children their native languages and urged students to marry only persons who will support their visions and dreams.
