The State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA) and The Challenge Initiative (TCI) in Taraba State have inaugurated a committee tasked to design messages for specific target audience to promote access and use of modern contraceptives.

The selected members of the committee who were drawn from the media, health sector, religious organisations and traditional institutions were trained on sensitising the public on family planning.

Chaired by the Galadima of Muri emirate, Alhaji Lamido A. Tukur, the thirty eight-man committee was constituted to bridge the gaps identified in the implementation of social mobilisation activities, utilising communication to strengthen demand generation activities for family planning and other health interventions.

One of the facilitators, Victoria Ibe Mohammed noted that the committee would work in a wide variety of health areas, which includes maternal and newborn, malaria and other infection disease as well as family planning.

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of SPHCDA, Alhaji Aminu Hassan Jauro stated that the use of modern contraceptives is achievable in the state, if the committee would use legitimate means to educate the people, especially those domiciling in the rural areas.
