Ahead of the 27th yearly international conference, members of the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE) have called for abstracts and researches in areas of communication, advertising, film, marketing and others.
Themed, ‘Communication, politics and intra- African dialogue,’ President ACCE Nigerian Chapter, Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Bashir, observed African unity is a long desire expressed by many Africans at different times from pre-colonial to contemporary times.
To the don, African unity is imperative for people of the continent because of shared history, identity, proximity, homophily and other values that make Africa one as a people.
Saying there are plans and initiatives about uniting Africa through number of mechanisms and measures like formation of regional political and economic blocs, trade, sports, security, cooperation etc, he also noted there are a number of barriers to intra- African relations like linguistic (anglophones, francophones, lusophone, arabo-phone etc), political or ideological, economic which make cohesive African relations to be challenging despite the shared destiny.
He added, “communication and media have an important role to play in promoting intra African unity through dialogue. While communication and media are tools, they are subject to political decisions, economic resources and support. It is in view of this reality that ACCE Nigeria identified and selected the theme so as to present findings and scholarly brainstorm on the issue.”
He disclosed areas of focus include, Journalism and media studies; Development communication; Advertising and marketing communication; film and multimedia; business and organisational communication.
Prospective participants are expected to produce abstract of 250 words or less. The deadline for submission is August 24, 2026.
Venue of the conference is Department of Mass Communication Delta State Polytechnic Oghara, Delta State. The event is scheduled to hold from November 10 to 13, 2026.
