The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), Ogun State Branch, has taken a significant step toward enhancing professional human resource development in the country by paying an institutional and advocacy visit to Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta.
Led by Branch Chairman, Mrs. Oladunni Adetona, MCIPM, the CIPM delegation was warmly received by MAPOLY’s Rector, Arc. Dr. Koyejo Jolaosho, alongside Deputy Rector, Dr. Mrs. Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda, and Registrar, Mrs. Oluwabunmi Elewedalu.
During the meeting, Mrs. Adetona underscored CIPM’s unique role as the sole professional body regulating Human Resource Management in Nigeria, urging MAPOLY to support the professionalisation of its Human Resource and Administrative cadre through CIPM certification for relevant staff. She further proposed the harmonisation of academic curricula in Business Administration, Management, and related courses to better align with industry standards.
The Branch Chairman also announced two upcoming flagship events: the Ogun State Conference themed “Strategies for Navigating New Challenges in Human Capital Management” scheduled for September 2–4, 2025, in Abeokuta, and the CIPM National Conference themed “Reimagining the New World of Work”, set for October 27–30, 2025, at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre.
Engr. Sean Olabode Badiru, MCIPM, Elected Council Member and Immediate Past Chairman of the branch, pledged CIPM’s commitment to equipping MAPOLY students with market-relevant soft skills, offering to provide pro-bono training and mentorship to help them gain a competitive edge in the job market.
Reinforcing the legal importance of certification, Dr. Peter Ogunkunle, FCIPM, reminded the MAPOLY management that CIPM is backed by an Act of Parliament as the only regulatory authority for HR practice in Nigeria, urging practitioners to comply with certification requirements.
In his response, Rector Jolaosho expressed appreciation for the visit and affirmed MAPOLY’s readiness to collaborate with CIPM. He revealed that the institution already has a development committee in place to work on curriculum harmonisation and welcomed the proposed training for Higher National Diploma students. He also noted that staff could apply for sponsorship to attend CIPM conferences.
The CIPM delegation also included Dr. Samuel Akintunde, MCIPM, Past Branch Chairman; Mrs. Azizah Alogba-Odusanya, ACIPM, Vice Chairman of the Oke Mosan Chapter; Dr. Taiwo Otegbade, ACIPM; Mr. Folorunsho Gbenga, ACIPM; and Jumoke Daramola.
The visit marks another milestone in CIPM’s drive to strengthen partnerships with academic institutions, ensuring that future graduates are better prepared to meet evolving workforce demands in Nigeria and beyond.
