Rotary Club donates medical equipment to Lagos hospital

ROTARY

The Rotary club of Lekki Phase 1, in partnership with Point Loma Rotary Club, Californi, has donated critical medical equipment to some health centres in Lagos.

The donation includes renovation of the maternity unit of Ikate Primary Health Centre, provision of essential obstetric tools, sterilisation equipment, proper lighting, storage facilities, and privacy screens.

Two other centres, Ilasan Primary Health Centre and Gbara Health Post, which had hitherto worked under intense pressure due to dearth of equipment, also benefited from the largesse.

Gbara Health Post received infant weighing scale and the adult weighing scale, while the Ilasan PHC got the Ambu bag, ward screens, medical trolley, adult weighing scale, infant weighing scales, angle poised lamps, and stretcher.

According to the club, the essence of the project is to boost maternal care and improve the quality of healthcare delivery in the area.

Speaking at the hand over event, President of the club, Rtn. Comfort Anorue, described the donation as a huge milestone.

She said: “With the 2D Ultrasound scanning machine, double probe and a 5000 watts UPS, Autoclave sterilisation unit, and other essential medical equipment, we are confident the equipment will make a massive impact on around 300-400 women of reproductive age every month, and countless mothers and newborns beyond.

“With this equipment, the challenges that were faced before will become history. Women of child bearing age can easily access timely reproductive health services. There will be stronger staff confidence, fewer avoidable referrals, and renewed community trust in the PHC such that it will be a safe place to welcome new life.”

Anorue, on behalf of the Rotary club of Lekki Phase 1, lauded the Point Loma Rotary club for partnering with them on the project.
Officer in Charge of Ikate-Elegushi Primary Health Centre, Mrs. Charity Omelihu, applauded Rotary’s consistent support and pledged that the equipment would be put to adequate use.
