The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs has led the launch of the Happy Woman Digital Platform, a new initiative designed to expand economic opportunities for Nigerian women and position them for greater participation in the digital economy.
Unveiled at a private event in Lagos, the platform was presented as a transformative ecosystem with an ambitious target of empowering 10 million women over the next five years through skills development, income access and market visibility.
At the centre of the launch was the minister’s call for execution in the push for women’s economic inclusion. Addressing a high-level gathering of government officials, financial institutions and private sector stakeholders, she said women’s empowerment must be treated not only as a social commitment but as a strategic economic priority.
“Empowering women is not just a social priority. It is an economic imperative. Platforms like this create real pathways for women to participate meaningfully in the economy,” she said.
The Happy Woman Digital Platform is designed to bridge the gap between learning and earning by combining digital and business skills development with access to income opportunities and marketplace support. The goal, according to its promoters, is to enable women to build sustainable and scalable income streams in a rapidly evolving economy.
A key component of the rollout is the 100K Micro Agency Digital Program, which will train and empower 100,000 women-led businesses to operate as mini digital and creative agencies. Through the programme, participants will gain the capacity to provide services such as social media management, content creation, digital marketing and brand support services to local and international businesses.
The programme is expected to strengthen the pipeline of women participating in Nigeria’s growing digital workforce while creating more structured opportunities for entrepreneurship. Applications will open on the platform from April 3, 2026.
The launch drew a distinguished audience, reflecting the weight of institutional backing behind the initiative. Among those in attendance were Kafilat Ogbara, Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs; Umaru Kwairanga, Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group; Emomotimi Agama, Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission; the Managing Directors of Fidelity Bank and Zenith Bank; as well as senior executives from the financial services, FMCG and oil and gas sectors. Organisations including WIMBIZ and the Bank of Industry were also represented.
Speaking at the event, Kwairanga emphasised the importance of scale and intentionality in building inclusive growth. “For Nigeria to achieve inclusive growth, we must create intentional pathways for women to participate in the economy at scale,” he said.
Another major highlight of the launch was the unveiling of the Social Impact Champion Initiative, a model designed to invite organisations to sponsor cohorts of women into the Happy Woman Creator Program.
The initiative is structured as a partnership pathway for corporate organisations, financial institutions and development partners seeking to support measurable impact while contributing to the growth of Nigeria’s female digital workforce.
According to the organisers, the initiative offers a practical framework for driving both social and economic outcomes by enabling women to build sustainable income streams and strengthen their participation in the digital economy. “This initiative provides a structured pathway for organisations to drive measurable impact while enabling women to build sustainable income and participate in the digital economy,” the organisers said.
Women across the country are now being encouraged to join the platform and begin their journey toward economic independence, while corporate institutions and development partners are being called upon to come on board as Social Impact Champions to help scale the initiative nationwide.
