Set up to improve the fortune of women and the girl-child in West Africa, Dazzling Damsel of Virtue Foundation (DOVEF), a non-government organisation in Enugu State, has held an outreach for underserved families in the state.

In the spirit of the season, the organisation visited Udi station, Ugbo Edogoli community at Nike settlement in partnership with FFSD Education, to reach out to communities.

According to the founder, DOVEF, Amarachi Amusi, who is also a girl-child advocate and teens coach, the organisation carefully chose communities identified to have families that won’t celebrate the season if it did not come to them.

“This year, we went to Udi station in Udi village in Enugu state because we were there last year and saw the level of need among the people, so we repeated our visit. We also visited a community that is filled with displaced men, women and children and has not gotten government presence (Ugbo Edogoli community around Nike settlement) where we provided food, clothes, shoes and scholarship programmes to some,” she added.

Amusi said she was inspired watching her dad give sometimes the last they had for others to eat. “With the revelation that we have been given to give, I am more inspired to give to the families in different communities during and after Christmas. Life is about giving; we must learn to factor others into our budget because people are going through a lot. Together we can be a great nation,” she said.

DOVEF provides women with mentorship, business capital and training to help them run their businesses and home effectively. It also mentors girls, sends out-of-school girls back to schools, provides enterprising internships for them and provides basic sanitary kits.

“The organisation serves as a channel for those who may want their impact felt in the lives of individuals and communities, and want to be sure that their resources are duly used to meet needs in a responsive, transparent, and accountable manner,” Amusi added.
