Foundation hosts free medical outreach for grassroots women in Ibadan

OUTREACH

In its bid to cater for the health needs of women in society, Yinkakenny Girls Care Foundation has organised a free medical outreach for grassroots women aged 40 and above in Ibadan.

The initiative provided essential health screenings and awareness for women who often lack access to basic medical information and healthcare services.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the outreach, its founder, Yinka Kenny emphasised the need to educate and support women who may not have sufficient knowledge about crucial health issues such as breast cancer, blood sugar levels, and other common medical conditions. She noted that early detection and preventive care play a vital role in ensuring the well-being of women, especially in underserved communities.

During the outreach, the women underwent breast cancer screenings and other routine health checks. They were also taught how to perform simple self-examinations at home to aid in early detection of potential health issues.

The medical team led by retired senior medical practitioner from the Oyo State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Mojisola Oluwakemi Bolaji was assisted by a team of dedicated medical assistants who conducted basic health screenings and provided essential medical advice.

Dr. Mojisola counselled the beneficiaries on the importance of seeking further medical evaluation at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for comprehensive health assessments where necessary.

In total, over a 100 women benefited from the medical outreach, receiving free health consultations, screenings, and basic medications at no cost. The initiative not only provided immediate medical support but also empowered the women with valuable knowledge to take charge of their health.

The convener, Yinka Kenny commended the medical team, volunteers, and donors who contributed to the success of the outreach. She reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of women, particularly those in marginalised communities, and called for collaborative efforts to sustain such impactful initiatives.

“The Yinkakenny Girls Care Foundation remains dedicated to creating lasting change in the lives of women by providing healthcare access, education, and empowerment programmes. The success of this medical outreach underscores the importance of continued support and intervention to bridge the healthcare gap for vulnerable populations,” Kenny added.
