Four Niger Delta Women honoured for economic impact

Media conglomerate, EveAfrique, has honoured four outstanding Niger Delta daughters blazing the trail in various sectors of Nigeria’s economy including traditional institutions.

The awardees are financial expert, Stella Fubara, grassroots politician and philanthropist, Tonye Briggs-Oniyide, business entrepreneur, Otunbress Timi Dumbo and the Managing Director of the Abuja Investment Company Limited, (AICL), Maureen Tamuno.

Speaking at the 15th EveAfrique Red Ball and Awards in Abuja, with the theme ‘Restoring the Pride of the Niger Delta’, Publisher, EveAfrique Magazine, Ivy Etokakpan, applauded the many contributions of Niger Delta daughters and sons to Nigeria’s economy, noting that each awardee was keenly considered and judged based on the various fields of impact as well as contributed to the development of the region.

According to her, EveAfrique started as a response to the lack of representation of Niger Delta voices in the media to encourage excellence among its sons and daughters.

Other Stakeholders meeting at the event also called for a united front to amplify the voices and struggles of the people of the Niger Delta region in the face of political struggles and environmental degradation.

They said that despite the huge contributions of the region to Nigeria’s growth and development, the Niger Delta is plague by underdevelopment and widespread, political neglect environment degradation that has made life difficult for its people.

One of the award recipients, Managing Director Del-York Development Company, (DDC), Stella Fubara, said that the Niger Delta remains core to Nigeria’s economy and must be given its rightful place. “For a region that singlehandedly placed Nigeria in the global limelight during the discovery of crude oil, the Niger Delta still faces economic hardship rather than plenty.”

Awardee and chairman, EveAfrique Advisory Board, Dr. Alabo Membere-Otaji said that restoring the pride of the Niger Delta is a call to return to the values, identity and collective strength that define them as a people. While the guest speaker, Yibo Koko, explained that vision is key to reclaiming the Pride of Niger Delta.
