It’s third term in Nigeria’s school calendar. This term is also the boundary between your child’s current class and the next class. Thus, this is a period your child should focus and maximise his or her efforts.

Children are usually always enthusiastic about a new school term/year especially after being away for weeks. It is therefore important that parents make the academic session exciting for their children. Try out new things that your child can relate to, as this is key in helping him or her focus on studies and make excellent grades.

It is therefore imperative to participate in your child’s school activities; he or she needs to feel your involvement. It is not enough to provide his or her basic school needs and other supplies; if you are a busy parent, you need to make things right this session. Create time to participate in your child’s academic activities. This will make your child happier as visiting your child’s school boosts his or her confidence, knowing he or she has got your back.

For every day-to-day activity your child is involved with, get engaged. Ask him specific questions like what he or she loves about school, his or her friends, what he or she learned in school and how he or she spent the day. These conversations boost your child’s ability to focus and excel.

It is important to come up with a plan that effectively helps you manage your child’s activities, including yours. This plan should include getting your child to bed early, working on his or her homework, creating a time to bond, among other routines that can create balance for an effective and happy academic session.

Teach your child to appreciate life in all of its forms. Participating in sports or other activities is just as essential as doing well in school. Teach him or her to cherish his or her life, which do not exist solely in books.

Ensure you get feedback from his or her teachers. It is important that your child’s teachers carry you along on his or her performances. Visit his or her teachers regularly to know how to complement the teacher’s efforts at home. Also, encourage the teachers by surprising him or her with gifts, commending his or her efforts and most importantly, respecting them. The best way to show teachers love is to respect them even in the presence of your child. It helps your child honour his or her teachers.

Having healthy meals is important to the growth and wellness of a child, which can further influence his or her success rate. A healthy child is a happy child. Taking time to prepare good food for your child helps his or her cognitive ability. Avoid ordering takeout food for them. Serve well-balanced breakfast that is rich in protein. Prepare nice meals for lunch to prevent them from being covetous or intimidated by their mates.

In this promotional term, encourage your child to strive for excellence. Sometimes children work hard but do not get good outcomes. Teach your child that failure is a necessary component of success. Motivate him or her to add new approaches to study towards achieving his or her goals.

Being a parent can be tasking but you need to care more about your child’s academic wellbeing, which is a priority to his overall output in life. So ensure you help your child achieve a successful promotional term.
