Kesiena Edafiogho, popularly known as Sena, is a Nigerian-born tech professional and entrepreneur who has carved out an impressive career in the Canadian IT industry. With nearly two decades of experience, Sena has become a respected voice in digital transformation, project management, and IT consulting, having worked with top banks and government institutions across North America. Sena holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Igbinedion University in Nigeria and furthered her education in Canada with a Post-Graduate Degree in International Business Management and Human Resources from Humber College. In addition, she has earned advanced certifications in Project Management, Anti-Money Laundering, and Business Analysis. Journey from Nigeria to Canada and Career in Tech
I relocated to Canada right after completing my undergraduate degree in Accounting and later pursued CMA accreditation. The early days in Canada were not easy, but I was determined to create a meaningful path for myself. My transition into tech began while working as a financial auditor, where I played a key role in upgrading the company’s systems. This project marked my first exposure to the tech world. Entering a new industry came with its challenges, requiring me to build knowledge and experience from the ground up. However, my Nigerian upbringing instilled a strong sense of resilience, which helped me persevere. This resilience allowed me to overcome the challenges and establish myself in the competitive tech landscape.
Inspiration Behind Establishing Synergy One Consulting Corporation
The inspiration for establishing Synergy One Consulting Corporation stemmed from my desire to do something beyond myself. At the time, I was transitioning into consulting independently, having gained experience with a top consulting firm in North America. I realized that I could help others, particularly immigrants like myself, enter the lucrative tech industry by providing the necessary training and guidance. As an immigrant, I saw firsthand the challenges my father faced in securing a job despite his decades of experience. I was determined to help others avoid the common issue of employers demanding the ‘Canadian experience.’ My goal was to assist immigrants in navigating the workforce and securing well-paying jobs in Canada.
How the Mentorship Program Helps Transitioning Professionals Break into Tech Roles
Our mentorship program is designed to assist professionals with over five years of work experience from their home country to break into the Canadian workforce. We provide them with the tools they need to succeed, including necessary training and actual work experience. Our approach offers a holistic view of what it takes to thrive in the Canadian job market. Most importantly, our program allows participants to work on real-life projects within the Canadian space, giving them the much-needed ‘Canadian experience’ that employers seek. This practical experience helps them transition smoothly into tech roles.

Challenges Faced as a New Immigrant and How They Were Overcome
As a new immigrant who arrived in Canada in 2004, I encountered many challenges, including limited access to programs that supported immigrants of color. Many were forced into menial jobs for extended periods due to a lack of opportunities. Securing my first corporate role was difficult, and I had to participate in upskilling programs and volunteer opportunities to gain the much-needed Canadian experience. Continuously upgrading my skills and building connections through networking and mentorship played a significant role in breaking into the corporate world. These efforts were crucial to my success, and they are the reasons I am committed to helping others through my company.
Qualities That Make Me a “Woman of Rubies”
Resilience and perseverance are two qualities that I believe make me a true “Woman of Rubies.” The journey is not always easy, but it is important to keep pushing forward, not only for myself but for the next generation. I also value empathy, which I believe is essential for a leader. It’s important to genuinely understand people’s needs and offer solutions from a place of care, not just for profit. Lastly, I am a kingdom entrepreneur. I don’t operate on my own but rely on God as my number one strategist. He guides my decisions and is the foundation of my business.
Advice for Women Looking to Build Successful Careers in Tech
My advice for women aiming to build successful careers in tech is to never stop learning and to constantly network with people who are already where you aspire to be. When self-doubt or imposter syndrome arises, it is crucial to address and overcome it immediately.

To young women interested in tech, I would say that education is not a scam! The first step to breaking into an unfamiliar industry is to educate yourself about it and then pursue training in the area you wish to specialize in. Maintaining a Healthy Work-Life Balance While Managing Multiple Roles
Maintaining a healthy work-life balance while managing multiple responsibilities may sound cliché, but for me, it starts with God. He is at the center of everything and guides me through every aspect of my life, including my business and family. I also have a supportive husband who steps in when I am unavailable. Finally, I make sure to take care of myself. I believe that you can’t pour into others if you’re empty, so I prioritize activities that bring me joy and help me stay mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy. This allows me to perform at my best in all areas of my life.
