Leadership of Niger Delta Youth and hundreds of women yesterday issued a 28-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to inaugurate a new board for the Niger Delta Development (NDDC) or face their wrath.

According to them, failure by the Federal government to do the needful would lead to protests that the Government will regret like last year’s EndSARS protest.

Speaking in Warri, Delta State, coordinator of the Youth council, Jator Abido said if the board is not inaugurated as demanded within that time, “we will have no option than to shut down the economy of the region to ensure that no proceed goes to the national treasury for sharing.”

They decried the appointment of a sole administrator for the board without consulting governors, stakeholders and youths in the nine states of the commission’s coverage areas.

Collins Ufuoma Achakpekri, representative of Niger Delta Youth Council, and Princess Pinapinawie, representative of Concerned Women in the Oil Producing Region, who spoke separately on the issue, said the Federal government deliberately appointed an administrator to serve the selfish goal of Akpabio and called for his immediate resignation as well as Effiong Akwa, the sole Administrator over enormous corruption allegations leveled against them.

They urged President Buhari to allow the EFCC and ICPC to carry out their duties without intimidation from the presidency.
