Bukky Karibi-Whyte

Go, Girl! is an event that empowers women with diverse backgrounds and stories by bringing them together in a relaxed environment to sit, listen and learn from each other’s experiences, challenges, mistakes and victories. Created and put together by Workstation in partnership with Guardian Woman, Dalberg and The 9-To-5 Chick, this event holds monthly at Workstation Bar Beach Every month, a successful woman making strides in her career and everyday life is selected and celebrated to share her experiences and journey. This month, we featured a woman who redefined the communications industry in Nigeria and has excelled greatly at it. She is Bukky Karibi-Whyte, founder of Robert Taylor Media and PR director for The Luxury Network. We had a fun, honest and educative talk about her journey, life decisions and what it takes to excel as a woman in the industry.

Tell us briefly about your career journey
My career Journey started with me working in Corporate America and Canada before delving into starting my own business. I have run a communications agency for 11 years now. We service various sectors from Corporate, Lifestyle, Health, Beauty, Sports and specialize in key interest areas such as Media Relations, Crisis Management and Special Events.

How do you strike the perfect work-life balance?
To avoid a burnout in your career, finding the perfect work-life balance is extremely important. I prioritise a lot, I try to find some “me” time and I am in a profession that I enjoy. In 2019 I would like to add more fitness and meditation to my routine.

What did you like most about the Go, Girl! Event?
Meeting all the beautiful and talented people at the Workstation was great! I enjoyed answering questions and having great conversations. I am also in touch with a good amount of people that I met at the Go Girl Event!

You are launching a lifestyle app, can you tell us more about it?
CRAWL! It’s refreshing to go into the Tech Space. It’s not something I planned but it is 2018/19 and Tech is everything! Solving basic issues has never been so rewarding.

My app shows you all the restaurants, bars, events, happenings etc curated by myself and a team of others, to go to! You no longer have to know the owner of a space to book a table! Everything can be done right through the app. It’s going to be fun!

Are there any quotes you live by?
