Homeschooling conversations, a platform birthed by Tomilola Olatunde to bridge the existing knowledge gap and create awareness about homeschooling as an effective alternative to the traditional mode of education, has shed light on the ever-evolving world of alternative education.

During its fifth edition, which was held with the theme, ‘Bridging the Gap between Home and School’, the two-day conference provided a unique platform for parents, educators and experts to broaden the conversation around educating children at home.

According to Olatunde, everyone can homeschool his or her children as long as they are open minded and willing to grow, adding that homeschooling is not merely an alternative to traditional schooling but a dynamic, flexible and personalised approach to education.

Keynote speaker at the event, Dr. Joy Isa, noted that, “our goal as parents is to raise independent adults that will be useful to themselves and the society and so we have to teach them to be responsible.”

One of the speakers at the event, Dr. Anne Olowu, who spoke on health and well-being of school children, said: “Health and wellbeing for our kids is beyond just physical. It is also social and mental. Beyond ensuring your kids are being taken care of, you have to ensure you are refilling your cup as a caregiver.”

Chidinma Moses of Key Academy also said: “Children should be able to have an education that is defined as an enlightening experience and for us to achieve that, we have to indulge the play-based learning that then transitions to project-based learning.”

Attendees had access to valuable resources and exclusive offers designed to support their homeschooling endeavours. The event’s focus on creating a supportive community underscored the importance of collaboration and shared knowledge in the homeschooling and education landscape.
