The wife of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu clocked 63 on Thursday. Mrs. Tinubu who contributed immensely to the success of her husband (Bola Ahmed Tinubu) victory at the presidential polls in February this year, actively led the women’s wing of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) campaigning across the country.

As eulogies continue to pour out to Nigeria’s sexagenarian first lady, women in political offices have also lent their voices praising her passion for championing the cause of the needy particularly women and children.

Female Senators in the 9th National Assembly, Senators Stella Oduah and Biodun Olujimi, in their facilitation message to the celebrant described her as a committed advocate for women and youth emancipation.

In a statement jointly signed by Oduah and Olujimi who represented Anambra North and Ekiti South respectively, they felicitated with their colleague who also represented Lagos Central. The statement reads in part: “On behalf of the 9th Senate girls, we wish to celebrate a friend and one of the most beautiful human beings we’ve ever had the privilege of experiencing up close and personal these past few years as she adds yet another year in what has now become a sterling life strewn with service to humanity.”

Also, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mamoud in her birthday message said Senator Tinubu’s leadership shines bright and is daily impacting the lives of Nigerians. “Your years of service and commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians particularly women and children is worth celebrating. Nigerians look forward to the positive impact you will continue to mark on our beloved country as we moved to renew the hope of our people.”

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu described her as a virtuous woman who has positively impacted a lot of lives. According to her, “Our First Lady attaining the age of 63 years in grace, elegance and good health is worth celebrating. Over the years, you have shown your passion for the needy in our country.

“On the political turf, your concepts and contributions on national issues have affected our nation positively. You have displayed courage and bravery on many occasions to show your passion for a better Nigeria.”

Senator Tinubu is a politician who served as the First Lady of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, and three-time senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly. A member of the APC, she is also an ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

She started her educational career at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Ijebu-Ode where she obtained her West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Exam (WASSCE) in 1979, and Post-Graduate Diploma from The Redeemed Christian Bible College in 2010. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), and a National Certificate of Education in Botany and Zoology from the Adeyemi College of Education in Ondo State.

As first lady of Lagos State, she set up the New Era Foundation dedicated to supporting all round development of young ones and promoting public awareness on environmental health and community service.

In 2015, she was one of over 100 senators elected in the 8th Assembly, six of which were women. At the 2019 general elections, she retained her senatorial seat, representing Lagos Central, making it her third tenure in office.
