HAPPY 2016 once again! As usual, this is resolution time and as usual, getting fitter and healthier are high on our resolution list. It is usually one of the top five. This is great.
However, because of the over indulgence of the past month, we tend to overdo things when we start and this causes us to burn out fast and fall off the wagon. We then end up not fulfilling one of the most important things we should be achieving and progressing on yearly.
Our bodies are machines. In a way, they are our cars, and like cars, we are built for different functions. We are not all race cars, SUVs, utility vans, Rolls Royce or danfos.
Know your body, know your type and workout and respond to it accordingly. Over-training for your body type actually brings on stress both, physical and psychological.
Some of the signs of over-exercising are:
Fatigue
Headaches
Lack of interest in exercising
Irritability
Weight gain
Insomnia
Exercising doesn’t have to be high impact all the time, particularly as we get older. It only has to be consistent.
Same with our eating. There is no need for extreme diets and detoxes; we just need to focus on foods as close to their natural state and in portions that supply us with enough energy for our activities.
This year, let us not focus on weight loss. Even if we want to lose weight, let us focus on getting balanced and healthy.
Being overweight is a pointer that something is out of balance with our lifestyle in the first place. So, let us focus on solving the root problem and not the symptom. If not, it will come back again.
Stay consistent. Your body will find and stay balanced. Balance is the way forward. Balance is wellbeing.
