Inspired by the desire to see women do more and be more in every facet of their lives, SheCan Nigeria, founded by Ezinne Ezeani is returning for the fourth edition with it yearly woman empowerment conference.

Holding at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, Ezeani who is also the DMD, MBR Signature Ltd said she believes every woman can do more, adding that this year theme is The whole woman, which simply means that as a career or business woman, in every aspect of a woman’s life, she should do more and be more.

She said the conference has always been known for excellence and this year would not be different, even as she appreciated partners, who have stood by them all these years.

“Because of them, we have been able to do even more this year, especially NNPC SNEPCO, Vento and Wema Bank. This year, Middlechase and Tecno are coming on board and it is clear that this edition would be very big. We are imploring everyone to come expectant because we have gone overboard this year. People have continued to testify to how this conference has changed their lives over the years and I know many more would be impacted this year.”

Speakers at the conference include Ibukun Awosika, Lanre Olusola, Tara Fela-Durotoye, Oyeyimika Adeboye, Funke Adejumo, Belinda Ikazoboh and others.

“Participants need to register on shecannigeria.org to benefit from the very many networking, career, empowerment and mentoring opportunities that would be made available. All these would happen on June 24 at Harbour Point and I strongly believe we are going to create impact. We have many product partners and brands that have partnered with us to make this edition a success and no girl or woman would leave there without her life being changed. This free to attend conference is available to girls and women of all ages and even men but we need attendees to register online.

“After the conference, from July 25-31, we would hold a skill acquisition programme in Lagos and in select girl-correctional centres. After this, there would be a concert and another skill acquisition programme holding in Ondo state, as well as roundtable sessions, a career fair and our mentoring fair which we’re finally launching this year.”

Head, marketing communications and investor relations, Wema Bank, Funmilayo Falola said the conference gets bigger and more wholesome every year.

“People talk about work-life balance for women but I don’t know if we can ever attain work-life balance the way people envision it but this conference gives me renewed vigour and lets me know there are many women supporting and rooting for me. This year, there would be many more changed lives and opportunities that will help you realize how to do things differently. Women are natural nurturers and know how to multiply anything and it is sure many businesses, greatness, ideas and so on would be born that day.”

Group CEO, Middlechase Property Ltd, Junadia Edim revealed that being a woman CEO for a real estate brand isn’t common in Nigeria but she’s hoping women like her can change the stereotype. “We need to break the current stereotypes and change the narrative for women. Some tribes in Nigeria still don’t allow women own properties even as younger women are looking to change this. We now have 25-30 year old women owning houses and assets and this should be encouraged.”

PR communications and media manager for Tecno mobile, Vincent Uzoegbu praised the organisation for their longstanding commitment to the growth and development of Nigerian women. Pointing out that STEM has long been seen as a space for men over the years, he said they are looking to change this, hence the partnership. “We want to see more women in STEM and we believe with the right support and collaboration, women can do much more that they are doing now.”

General Manager, Vento Furniture, Moaz Elhadad said they understand the importance of women as they form the core of the society and they want to be part of it.

Co-founder, SheCan Nigeria, Stanley Ezeani said opportunities never ask for one’s gender before presenting itself and urged women not to make excuses for not striving to do more. “In 2019, we trained over 3000 women in Ebonyi in skill acquisition to the extent that the federal government became interested in the project. The training birthed many businesses that are still standing till today. Our interest is to see lives transformed as much as possible with tailor-made solutions. We just came back from Ijebu-Igbo where we held a 10-day training session for young women because we know it’s small businesses, usually owned by women, which grow and stimulate the economy.
