United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has, at the official unveiling of a call centre by the National Population Commission (NPC) ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 census, applauded the gender sensitivity disposition of the agency in the recruitment of operators for the centre.

Its Resident Representative in Nigeria, Ulla Elizabeth Mueler, commended the high number of women engaged at the call centre, saying it was a good development for gender inclusion.

She charged NPC Chairman, Nasir Isa Kwarra, with adequate training of employees.

The UNFPA officer clarified that a call centre, embedded in the situation room, “is a helpdesk and will ensure communication of crucial information relating to census implementation among and between census managers or officials, field functionaries and the public.”

In his remarks, Kwarra said he was bringing in persons with disability to ensure all-inclusiveness at the commission, adding that all the operators represent the states and major ethnic groups across the federation.
