48-year-old man gets life sentence for defiling six-year-old girl

Justice Musa Ubale of a Jigawa High court sitting in Birnin Kudu has sentenced a 48-year-old man, Idris Munkaila to life imprisonment for defiling a six-year-old sister-in-law.
 
Munkaila (alias Dan asabe) of Gwaram Local Council of Jigawa State was found guilty for the offence of rape, which is punishable under Section 283 of the Penal Code Law of Jigawa State. 

 
According to the charge, Munkaila on June 26, 2017, lured a six-year-old girl, (name withheld) at Sara Town in Gwaram Local Council of Jigawa State, and had sexual intercourse with her.    

The defendant warned the victim not to tell anyone.
 
A Few days later, the victim’s mother observed that there was a whitish discharge coming from her private part.  

Upon enquiry, the victim told her mother that it was the defendant who had sexual intercourse with her.
SIMILARLY, the court has discharged and acquitted one  Abubakar Garba from Buji Local Council, arraigned for culpable homicide, an offence punishable under Section 221 (b) of the Penal Code Laws of Jigawa State 2012.   
 
The facts of the case were that, in the year 2018, the defendant was said to have used an axe and caused serious injury to one Abubakar Juli, which led to his death. 
 
The deceased was said to have been hailed from the same community as the defendant. 

 
The defendant was arrested and charged to court, but he denied the charge. 
 
In proving the case, the prosecution called two witnesses and tendered two exhibits, then closed its case. While the defendant testified as a witness in his own defence and closed his case. 
   
But in his judgment, Justice Ubale held that the prosecution failed to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt, thereby discharging and acquitting the defendant.
 
IN a related development, the State Police Command has arrested a 48-year-old man, suspected to be a hard drug dealer in Hadejia Local Council.
   
The Command’s spokesman, ASP Lawan Shiisu in a statement, yesterday, said the suspect was arrested at Gandun Sarki quarters in Hadejia by a team of policemen while on surveillance patrol.   
 
 
The suspect was also in possession of 43 bottles of substances suspected to be hard drugs.
   
Shiisu further stated that the police also arrested six suspected criminals in Kiyawa Local Council during raids in their hideouts at Balago village.
