The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG) has commenced engagement with the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) on targeted electricity network maintenance and reinforcement projects in key industrial and commercial clusters across Kano State.

The initiative is aimed at improving electricity supply to areas with significant commercial and industrial activities, with the group saying reliable power is critical to unlocking economic opportunities and strengthening local economies.

The development followed a proposal submitted by BAT-IG to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) on July 14, 2026, seeking reliable electricity supply for priority commercial and industrial areas across the country.

According to the group, NDPHC acknowledged the proposal and approved a phased pathway for further engagement with relevant state stakeholders and electricity distribution companies.

Following the approval, BAT-IG held a joint meeting with the technical and commercial units of KEDCO on Monday, August 10, where the company welcomed the initiative and expressed readiness to work on priority areas where improved electricity supply could support commercial and industrial activities.

The meeting identified Jogana, Zainawa and Tokarawa along the Hadejia Road corridor, covering the Eastern Bypass, as some of the areas to be considered for the initial intervention.

Other locations identified include clustered estates along the Western Bypass, where the group said a 33/11kV injection substation may be required to adequately support growing commercial and industrial demand.

BAT-IG proposed the locations as pilot areas for the network maintenance and reinforcement programme, with subsequent interventions to be implemented in phases.

The group said, “The Kano initiative forms part of the 30 industrial and commercial locations identified and recommended by BAT-IG for targeted electricity interventions nationwide.”

It added that Kano, Lagos, Anambra, Nnewi and Edo were among the locations earmarked for the first phase of the programme, while other areas would be covered progressively.

Explaining the broader objective of the initiative, BAT-IG said it was being driven by the need to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of building a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

The group said the programme would also contribute to the electricity component of the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly the aspiration “that no Nigerian should go to bed without access to electricity.”

BAT-IG stressed that reliable electricity was essential to the survival and expansion of businesses, industries and commercial activities.

“Reliable electricity remains critical to the survival and expansion of businesses, industries and commercial activities,” the group said.

It added that “targeted infrastructure interventions in productive clusters will help unlock economic opportunities, create jobs and strengthen local economies.”

The group commended NDPHC and KEDCO for their positive response to the initiative and expressed its readiness to continue working with relevant government agencies, electricity distribution companies, state governments and other stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of the programme.
