Benue commissioner’s ranching comment twisted, says Ortom

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has said that his Commissioner for Education, Prof. Dennis Ityavyar, was misrepresented in his statement on grazing of cattle.

According to Ortom, in a statement yesterday, there is land for ranching in Benue but not open grazing. His words: “I stand with my commissioner on what he said about ranching in Benue. What we are against is open grazing. Our law is still in place and we will prosecute anybody who goes against the law.

“The only people who can reverse this is the Benue people, not even me. That is why I will continue to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to rescind his decision that open grazing must continue in Nigeria.

Open grazing is outdated, and we must ranch our cattle.”
