Buhari appoints Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein as Nigeria’s first female AGF

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday approved the appointment of Dr. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein as the first female Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday approved the appointment of Dr. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein as the first female Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).

Following Buhari’s ratification, Sakirat Madein has become the first female ever to be appointed to the position in substantive capacity.

Her appointment was confirmed in a circular with reference number OHCSF/COMMS/PR/2023/24 dated Friday, May 19, 2023 which was signed by the spokesman of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mohammed Abdullahi Ahmed.

In the circular which was signed on behalf of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi Esan (CFR), it was clearly stated that Madein’s appointment was approved by President Buhari.

According to the circular, her appointment as Nigeria’s first female AGF also came about following the successful conduct of a selection process to fill the existing vacancy.

It added that the appointment was to take effect from Thursday, May 18, 2023 and directed the new appointee to resume duty immediately.

Her appointment has also been announced in a statement signed by the President’s spokesman, Mohammed Ahmed.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr. (Mrs) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein as the substantive Accountant-General of the Federation following the successful conduct of a selection process to fill the existing vacancy,” Ahmed stated.

“The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, CFR made this known today, Friday 19 May 2023, in Abuja, adding that the appointment is with effect from Thursday, May 18, 2023.

Madein was born on the 7th of March, 1965 in Iperu Remo Ikenne Local Government Area (LGA) of Ogun State.

Until her appointment, she was the Director of Finance and Accounts in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, OHCSF.

She holds a Ph.D. in Management Finance from Walden University, Minnesota, USA.

Madein and 19 other candidates were shortlisted for the position of the AGF back in January of this year.
