President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to compensate farmers negatively affected by flood.

In a message to Farmers’ Day 2018, organised by Nigeria AGIP Oil Company for Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta and Imo States farmers, in Bayelsa State, yesterday, the President said:

“Two weeks ago, National Food Security Council met and approved a compensation package for all flood impacted farmers and fishermen. I want to assure all flood affected farmers and fishermen that you will be helped. This government is with you in your time of need. As I speak to you now, the modalities for this compensation programme are being finalised and very soon, we shall start implementation.’

Buhari, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said the theme for the Farmers’ Day, Youths, Agents of Agricultural Development in the Niger Delta, was apt, noting that farming is the bedrock of Nigeria’s economy.
