Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Wednesday apologised for the prevailing acute water shortage and its attendance hardship on Kano residents.

He, however, assured the perennial challenge would be over soon.

Ganduje blamed the scarcity on dilapidated facilities and said a multi-billion dollar contract has already been awarded to refurbish water plants in the state.

Ganduje regretted that the much awaited water reformation project was however truncated with the advent of Covid-19 pandemic which incidentally prevented the contractors to mobilize men and equipment to site.

The Governor equally used the occasion of ‘Hauwa Nassarawa’ to advance government’s social economic development and successes recorded in security architecture of the state.

According to him, “we are presently expanding our social economic growth to accommodate the fast growing of economy and commerce in Kano. Government has facilitated two giant project; economic city and Dala Inland Dry Port to meet the economic expansion.

“We are also pleased with the security situation in Kano and the support of the traditional rulers in this regard is tremendous. Presently, Government is fully in control of our forest. We have also review our master plan and road map to ease transport congestion in Kano”. Ganduje noted.

Earlier, the Emir of Kano, Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero applauded government efforts to sustain peace and security in the state just as he advocated more human oriented projects.

Emir Ado cautioned the youth to shun all form of social vices especially drug abuse and hold their destiny in their own hands. The emir challenge security agency not to relent in bring to book, all criminal tendencies in the state.

Hauwa Nassarawa is part of traditional activities marking Eid-el-Fitr Sallah celebration where Emir of Kano pays traditional homage to Government house.
