Igbinedion varsity,  Newcastle Aerodrome  partner on training  of pilots, others

The Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ireland-based Newcastle Aerodrome for the training of pilots and other aviation workers in Nigeria.

It disclosed that the Oskar Ibru Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre had been chosen for the training. Briefing journalists after the signing of the MoU, Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Lwarence Ezemonye, said the training would produce quality pilots for the nation’s aviation sector.

Ezemonye, who expressed hope that the collaboration was another feat by the institution, added that the management would ensure that it published admission into the programme, which he described as “one of the university’s smart vision programmes.

He said the institution would leverage the MoU for effective output in training pilots to fill existing gaps in the nation’s aviation sector. On his part, Proprietor of Newcastle Aerodrome, who led the delegation, John Nugent, said the IUO remained a prospective driver of the company’s vision.

Nugent, who was accompanied by Legal Adviser of the project, Dr. Umar Mantu and other stakeholders were conducted round some venues and facilities designated for the training for 100 pilots in the first phase.

The facilities include the Oskar Ibru ICT Centre, board and seminar rooms at the Ibrahim Dankwambo School of Post Graduate Studies, as well as facilities at Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH).
They also toured the Research centres of the Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai Centre for Contemporary Security Affairs, where they inspected seminar rooms for training students in aviation safety and security, as well as an amphitheater and e-library, among others.

In their separate remarks, Nugent, Mantu and Brienze Lawrence, described the facility at the IUO, as world-class, assuring that it only remains to transform the MoU into an agreement guided by the laws of both countries.
