Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has saluted the gallantry of security operatives for repelling an attack, by suspected terrorists, on residents of the Tijjani Malumfashi Housing Estate, on Saturday.
The governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Mohammed, told newsmen, yesterday, that the gallantry helped save the lives of residents that would have been victims.
“Governor Dikko Radda has saluted the gallantry of the Malumfashi Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Bello Umar, as well as the troops and members of a vigilante group, who foiled an attack on residents of Tijjani Malumfashi Housing Estate, on Saturday.
“It was gathered that the kidnappers, numbering about 50, stormed the area around 11p.m. with dangerous weapons. They shot in the air to scare away members of the estate. Reports indicate that they stationed themselves at different locations in the area and began house-to-house operations, before the arrival of security operatives,” Mohammed stated.
According to him, the prompt arrival of the police and the military personnel saved a judge named Alkali Saidu and others from being whisked away by the criminals.
“It was gathered that no fewer than six people were brought out of their respective houses, tied and blindfolded before the arrival of security personnel.”
The governor advised residents of the state to always report suspicious movements and persons of questionable character to security and intelligence agencies, saying that the alarm quickly raised by residents of the estate was what facilitated the timely intervention of the security agencies.
