The wife of the Niger State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago, has empowered no fewer than 250 widows, petty traders, and vulnerable women with ₦100,000 each to support and strengthen their businesses.

The presentation ceremony, held at the Women Multipurpose Centre in Minna, saw the First Lady personally present symbolic cheques to beneficiaries in a brief but emotional event.

She said the intervention was designed to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable members of society, particularly widows and small-scale traders who require financial support to sustain and grow their businesses.

“In fact, I sent people out to meet traders at their various business locations. I am pleased that today we have achieved our goal of reaching those in need directly,” she said.

According to her, the funds were initially earmarked for another purpose but were redirected to support struggling women to remain active in their businesses.

“This is a pilot initiative. More programmes will be rolled out soon to further empower women and improve their livelihoods,” she added.

Some of the beneficiaries, including Rashidat Olayemi, Richeal Ajayi, and Nagya Maryam, described the gesture as a lifeline for their businesses.

They expressed gratitude, noting that the financial support would significantly boost their trading activities and improve the welfare of their families.

“This is the first time we are receiving such cash support from a public figure like the governor’s wife. May God reward her,” the beneficiaries said.
