Seven persons were killed and two others injured in a multiple road crash involving three vehicles at Kara, Ibafo, along the Lagos-Ibadan corridor in Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command, confirmed the incident, which occurred at about 12:03 a.m. yesterday.

According to a statement by the command’s Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi, the crash involved nine male passengers and three vehicles: a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter with registration number JJJ920YA.

Odunsi said the Ibafo Outpost Command received information about the crash at about 4:04 a.m. and arrived at the scene five minutes later.

He said seven victims were confirmed dead at the scene, while two others sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were evacuated by the Ogun State Ambulance Service, while the damaged vehicles were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) of the Nigeria Police Force, Ibafo, for further investigation and necessary action.

The FRSC classified the incident as a fatal multiple road traffic crash, with speed violation identified as the probable cause, subject to further investigation.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances and remain vigilant while driving.

Ogunjobi also advised motorists to exercise extra caution at night, noting that poor visibility and fatigue could increase the risk of crashes.

He commiserated with the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
