Mini-bus driver dies in Lagos crash, six killed on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

One person was killed yesterday in a multiple road crash involving a TATA bus and a mini-bus at the Independence Tunnel, inward Maryland, along Ikorodu Road in Lagos.

The accident claimed the life of the mini-bus driver. Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were deployed to the scene, where a tow truck was used for evacuation, vehicle removal and traffic control, preventing traffic congestion on the axis.

In a statement, LASTMA said: “A multiple road crash involving a TATA bus and a mini-bus occurred at Independence Tunnel inward Maryland. The incident resulted in the death of the mini-bus driver.”

The agency added that it also carried out transloading operations after drums fell on the roadway at the Independence Tunnel en route to Ojota.

“The transloading of the drums that fell on the road at the Independence Tunnel en route to Ojota is underway, and our personnel are strategically positioned to ensure that traffic is unhindered,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, no fewer than six persons were confirmed dead, while two others sustained injuries in a separate road crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the NASFAT junction in Ogun State.

The Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps said in a statement that the accident occurred along the busy section of the highway and involved a Mazda commercial bus and a Volvo truck.
