The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Abuja Operations Office yesterday confirmed that no lives were lost in the fire outbreak at Karimo Market in the Federal Capital Territory.
The agency disclosed that it carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the incident, which occurred on Sunday at about 7:00 p.m., and affected several shops within the market.
In a statement, NEMA said emergency responders swiftly contained the blaze, after which the area was cordoned off to safeguard the public and preserve the scene for further investigation.
An assessment team from the Abuja Operations Office later visited the market to determine the extent of damage and identify immediate needs.
The Market Chairman, Lawali Umar, received the team and provided preliminary details while guiding officials through the affected sections.
The cause of the fire had yet to be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
