Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested two suspected kidnappers in Igarra through what the Command described as proactive patrols and sustained intelligence-led operations.
The suspects, Muhammed Muamadu Haru, 35, and Abubakar Muhammed Haruna, 25, were arrested on January 28, 2026, at about 1:30 p.m. by officers of the Igarra Area Command at a traditional nipping point along the Auchi–Igarra Highway.
The command said the duo were identified by a vigilante member as part of a kidnapping syndicate during an earlier joint bush-combing rescue operation.
According to police, the suspects attempted to flee into the bush after being recognised but were quickly intercepted and arrested. In a statement, the command said investigations were ongoing.
In a related development, police also foiled another suspected kidnapping attempt on Monday, February 2, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., along the Auchi–Igarra Express Road.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said a motorcycle patrol convoy from the Igarra Area Command intercepted three suspects who were about to block the road.
“The suspects fled into the forest after a hot chase, abandoning items suspected to be logistics for criminal operations, including food items, mobile phones, jack knives, and other personal effects. Sustained bush-combing of the area is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Monday Agbonika, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, and reassured residents of the Command’s determination to rid the state of criminal elements.
