Obasanjo, Abiodun, Ishola, Soyinka, others for AMJN confab

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, former Ambassador to the United Kingdom (UK), Sarafadeen Ishola, and Prof. Wole Soyinka, are among the dignitaries to grace the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria (AMJN) Elders Group (Majlis Ansarullah) 50th anniversary conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as special guests of honour.

Others expected to attend the golden jubilee include traditional rulers, including Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo; Olówu of Òwu Kingdom, Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola, Oluyalo Otileta VII, among others.

The six-day event, themed: “Faith-based Solutions to Global Challenges,” is slated for Tuesday, August 18, 2026, and will run through Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

It will feature courtesy calls on Islamic and traditional rulers, political and opinion leaders, security officials and top government officials in Abeokuta.

According to a statement by the Media Lead, Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat of Nigeria, Dr Qasim Akinreti, the organisers also planned a two-day free medical camp at the General Hospital, Iberekodo, Abeokuta, which will be declared open by the Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria, Alatoye Folorunso Azeez.

Other highpoints of the conference, according to the statement, include special lectures, prayers for Nigeria, sports, speech contest, Quranic recitation and quiz competitions.

The topics for the lectures are “Leadership Lessons for Modern Life: Applying Prophetic Diplomacy in Peace building,” and “Increasing Morbidity and Mortality of Non-Communicable Diseases: Role of Early Detection in Prevention and Control” and “Khilafah: A Central Pillar of Muslim Unity, Memory, Mind and Mental Health in Old Age.”
