The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has commended former Inspector-General of Police, MD Abubakar, for his service to the country, expressing confidence that his new book would contribute to discussions on national security and the rule of law.
Obi made the remarks at the public presentation of Abubakar’s book, Beyond the Bullet: Policing Terrorism in a Democratic System, held at the Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja.
He described the retired police chief as accessible and responsive during his tenure, recalling his readiness to attend to emergencies.
Although he had yet to read the book, Obi expressed confidence that it would offer valuable insights into securing the country while upholding professionalism, the rule of law and human dignity.
He congratulated Abubakar and wished him greater success in his future endeavours.
Earlier in the day, Obi had visited the Clarissan Missionary Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in Onitsha, Anambra State, to celebrate their Golden Jubilee.
Connecting both engagements, the former Anambra governor emphasised the importance of service, experience and continued contributions to national development.
He urged Nigerians who had served the country faithfully to document and share their experiences, saying their contributions could help build a New Nigeria that is “POssible and OK.”
