Amid renewed tension in the Niger Delta region especially in the Gbaramatu kingdom, Delta state, in particular, caused by a shadowy militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers, which has vowed to reduce Nigeria’s economy to zero by destroying key pipelines and oil installations, the Pere of Gbaramatu kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oboro-Gbaraun 11, Aketekpe, Agadagba, has undertaken to intervene in the face-off between the federal government and ex-MEND leader, Chief Government Ekpemukpoloalias,Tompolo.

The Monarch who described Tompolo as is one of his illustrious subjects hinted he would intervene in Tompolo’s matter with the federal government

“It is incumbent upon me to set machineries in place to intervene in this matter. In as much as it is apparently a legal issue, political solution cannot be completely ruled out, and so I am desirous to see this matter resolved amicably. Mr President will agree with me that this matter has generated so much tension in the Niger Delta region in recent times, and in my considered opinion, such tension is unnecessary at this point in time, as peace is very necessary for this administration to deliver the promised dividends of democracy to the people.

“I wish to state my total abhorrence to pipeline vandalism and other criminal activities in the region because such would hinder economic progress and development in the region. One of my priorities as the Pere of Gbaramatu is to ensure that the area is free of crimes such as illegal crude oil refining as such acts do not only affect the economy of the country, but also destroy the ecology which is very dear to me and my people.”

The monarch warned that the alleged plan by the federal government to scrap Nigerian Maritime University at Okerenkoko, which is the only institution ever to be sited in Gbaramatu kingdom was equally heating up the region and motivating the militants to pick up arms urging government to tread with caution so as not to set the whole region ablaze again.
