Unaccessed UBEC grants to states hit N73 billion
The unaccessed Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) matching grants to state governments currently stand at N73 billion, the Executive Secretary, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, has disclosed.
He made the disclosure yesterday in his presentation to members of the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Services who were on an oversight visit to the commission headquarters on the 2019 budget performance in Abuja.
According to Bobboyi, Kwara alone has over N7 billion having been unable to access the fund from 2014 to 2019.
Other states, including Anambra have N4.2 billion; Enugu, N4.3 billion; Abia, N3.8 billion; and Plateau, N3.1 billion.
He told the delegation that the N73 billion was out of the over N112 billion allocated from the Consolidated Revenue Fund to UBEC under the 2019 Appropriation Act.
The UBEC boss explained that the money was high because the 2019 matching grants were due for access from December 31, 2019.
