The Convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement, Engr. Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, has said the group’s recent solidarity trek by youths and students was organised to demonstrate support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akintunde said the exercise was intended to mobilise support for Tinubu’s expected second-term bid, Abiodun’s reported senatorial ambition and Adeola’s governorship aspiration in Ogun State.

Speaking at the Ake Palace in Abeokuta, he said the initiative was inspired by what the movement described as the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, as well as the developmental projects and empowerment programmes of Governor Abiodun and Senator Adeola.

According to him, the solidarity trek was also designed to encourage greater youth participation in the democratic process while reaffirming members’ commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He commended Adeola for what he described as the senator’s contributions to youth empowerment, infrastructure development and constituency projects across Ogun State.

“We have every reason to support our leaders because we are confident that, come 2027, they will record a landslide victory.

He noted that Over the past three years, President Tinubu’s reforms and Senator Yayi’s track record in empowerment, infrastructure development as well as  constituency projects have continued to inspire many young people to support their leadership.

The solidarity walk attracted scores of youths, students, APC members and supporters, who converged on the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, before embarking on a peaceful procession through major streets of Abeokuta.

Participants carried banners and placards while chanting slogans in support of Tinubu, Abiodun and Adeola.

Also speaking at the Ake Palace, a co-convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement and former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kehinde Odeneye, described the exercise as peaceful and orderly.

Odeneye, who represented Ijebu Central Federal Constituency for two terms, commended Akintunde for promoting unity and cohesion among the movement’s youth and student wings.

“The youth and students’ wings of the movement conducted this peaceful and orderly exercise under our supervision.

 The initiative promotes unity, encourages active political participation and strengthens youth engagement within the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State.

“We also want the public to know that we remain firmly aligned with our leaders and fully support the position expressed by our convener.   They have consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership, and we are pleased to organise this exercise in support of their vision as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum,” he said.
