The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State says more than 150,000 new members have joined the party amid what it described as growing political realignment across the state.

The state APC chairman, Mohammed Hassan, disclosed this at a gathering of party leaders and supporters where lists containing about 117,000 new members were formally presented.

The lists were presented by the APC deputy governorship candidate, Farouk Mustapha; a former political adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed, Shittu Zaki; and Hassana Arkila.

Hassan said further registrations and defections had been recorded across the state, bringing the total number of new entrants to more than 150,000.

Among those said to have joined the APC are a former chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), about 20 former local government chairmen and a former member of the House of Representatives.

The party also said some supporters previously associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as well as former political office holders, organisers, community leaders, women, young people and grassroots supporters from different parts of the state, had joined its ranks.

The APC attributed the development to sustained mobilisation by party leaders and stakeholders, including Mustapha, Zaki, Arkila and Zainab Babban Takko.

According to the party, many of the new members cited the performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and the impact of Federal Government interventions in Bauchi State as reasons for their decision to join the APC.

The party also highlighted the contributions of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, particularly his role in Federal Government health-sector reforms and interventions in Bauchi State and other parts of the country.

However, the APC said the reported membership surge must go beyond numbers, stressing the importance of properly documenting and integrating the new entrants into its ward and local government structures.

The party said the collation and verification of membership records would continue as further returns are received from across the state.

The development comes as political parties and stakeholders intensify mobilisation and realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
