Since assuming office following her historic emergence at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State Congress on March 3, 2026, at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, the APC Lagos State Women Leader, Alhaja Iyabosola Abimbola Eletu, has initiated a dynamic era for women in Lagos politics.

A comprehensive six-month progress report spanning March to September 2026 highlights a tenure defined by strategic partnerships, grassroots reach, extensive stakeholder engagements, and bold advocacy for female political advancement across the state.

Guided by her core “Organise, Engage, Empower, Include and Reach the Grassroots’ framework, Alhaja Eletu has transformed the party’s female wing into an active, highly coordinated engine for political mobilisation and social impact.

Hitting the ground running within days of taking office, Alhaja Eletu, alongside her Assistant, Damilola Sonayon James (now APC Deputy Governorship Candidate), rallied party faithfuls at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena for International Women’s Day, setting a clear tone for female rights, representation and active governance.

In April, Alhaja Eletu led a high-powered delegation of the Lagos APC Women’s Wing to the State House, Alausa, on a courtesy visit to the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.

The strategic meeting focused on deepening economic opportunities for grassroots women, strengthening community welfare systems and aligning party structures with state development goals.

Demonstrating hands-on civic leadership, the Women Leader joined the First Lady at the launch of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, rallying mothers and female professionals to act as primary guardians of household and community hygiene.

To further reinforce her commitment to environmental sustainability and public health, Alhaja Eletu led a delegation of women leaders from across all 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs on a strategic working visit to the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

During the visit, Alhaja Eletu emphasized the pivotal role women play as waste managers in households and markets.

The engagement fostered a joint commitment between the APC Women’s Wing and LAWMA to drive grassroots advocacy, promote proper waste disposal practices, support waste sorting initiatives and ensure a cleaner, healthier Lagos State.

Understanding that effective governance and political harmony rely on strong institutional ties, Alhaja Eletu spearheaded a series of high-level courtesy visits across the state.

Her strategic consultative drives covered Traditional Rulers (Obas & Royal Fathers), party elders, state cabinet members, heads of departments and agencies, and Local Government Chairmen to seek royal blessings, wisdom and support to foster peace, cultural preservation, and grassroots harmony across various kingdoms in Lagos. These visits aimed at advocating for female inclusion in governance initiatives, state welfare programs and social intervention schemes, while building operational synergies to ensure government programs reach women directly at the grassroots.

With preparations mounting for the 2027 electoral cycle, Alhaja Eletu has remained a staunch voice for gender equity within public institutions. Throughout April and May, her office advocated for increased female candidacy in both the Lagos State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.

Following the party’s primary elections, she publicly celebrated the emergence of female flagbearers, reinforcing her commitment to moving women from the sidelines to the decision-making table.

Her vision of deep political inclusion was further highlighted through key dialogue sessions with Ndigbo Women in APC. In July, Alhaja Eletu hosted the leadership of Ndigbo Women in APC at the State Secretariat (ACME, Ikeja), building solidarity, cross-cultural inclusion and a unified grassroots drive.

She led Local Government Women Leaders on a strategic consultation with Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, focusing on voter registration drives, leadership development and legislative-grassroots synergy.

Recognizing that the heart of political strength lies at the grassroots, Alhaja Eletu’s administration initiated unprecedented outreach programs across the state.

In August, she participated in the 2nd Lagos West Women’s Assembly and Cash Empowerment Programme, hosted by Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule. The initiative delivered ₦200 million in direct economic empowerment to over 2,000 women beneficiaries.

Beyond municipal centers, Alhaja Eletu personally led field visitations to five riverine communities along the Ojo/Badagry axis during August and September. These visits extended party engagement to historically underserved coastal populations, ensuring that female traders, fisherwomen and community leaders in riverine regions are fully integrated into the APC structure.

The institutional impact of her work was formally recognized on September 17, 2026, when the Lagos APC unveiled its 2027 Campaign Council structure. Alhaja Iyabosola Eletu was named to the core Campaign Council, alongside a newly dedicated Women Directorate designed to drive voter mobilisation across every ward in the state.

Reflecting on her first half-year in office, Alhaja Eletu expressed gratitude to the APC leadership, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, First Lady of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Governor of Lagos State Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, First Lady Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Governance Advisory Council (GAC) members, traditional rulers, party elders, Cabinet members, LGA Chairmen, Senatorial/LGA/LCDA/Ward Women Leaders, and the millions of APC women across Lagos State.

“The foundation built over these six months is dedicated to creating a structured, empowered, and unified platform where every Lagos woman can thrive politically and economically. As we look toward the next phase, our focus remains firmly on grassroots capacity building, sustainable economic empowerment, and victory for our party,” stated Alhaja Iyabosola Abimbola Eletu.

As the Office of the Women Leader transitions into its next phase, upcoming initiatives will focus on statewide senatorial town halls, targeted skills training, expanded riverine outreaches, and robust civic engagements across all 57 LGAs and LCDAs in Lagos State.
