Shittu vows to work against Adelabu’s candidacy in Oyo
• Ambode assures aggrieved APC members of compensation
• Struggle to unseat party in state concerted, says Lanlehin
The Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu, has vowed to work against Oyo State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, in 2019 poll. Shittu, who spoke yesterday with journalists in Abuja, ruled out the possibility of heeding the call by the reconciliation committee on him to bury the hatchet in the interest of the party. He said: “Before you talk of reconciliation, you must first talk of restitution. If you violate somebody’s rights, or you seize somebody’s property and you are found out, instead of you to deliver what you had stolen, you are now talking of reconciliation.
“As for me, I don’t recognise the candidate of APC, I am in court and I am sure that I would triumph over those who were not as intelligent in foisting a candidate on the party.”
Shittu, who reiterated his support for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 poll, said he would inaugurate the coalition of grassroots campaign for Buhari/Osinbajo election in Oyo State in a bid to garner two million votes for the President.
In another development, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has assured aggrieved members in the APC of compensation from the party and also appealed to them to shelve aside their grievances.
The governor, who spoke yesterday at the South-West national peace and reconciliation committee interactive hearings, said the party would create a system to compensate those who had sacrificed for it.According to him, it would have been unimaginable situation if there was crisis in Lagos as currently happening in some states, adding that it is time to move from reconciliation to compensation for the party to win the 2019 general elections.
He, however, stated that though the compensation may not meet their desire, but appealed to them to submit themselves to the over-riding interest of the party. Ambode said the outcome of the meeting, which did not have Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun in attendance, would be communicated to National Working Committee (NWC) of the party in Abuja for a redress.
Chairman of the committee, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, urged aggrieved members to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship, saying the party primaries have its peculiarities.
Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Olufemi Lanlehin, has said that the struggle to unseat APC administration in the state is concerted.
Lanlehin, who stated this in Ibadan yesterday during a news conference, said the people were tired of the policies and programmes of the present APC administration in the state. He condemned the deplorable state of infrastructure, health, education and other sectors.
