Again, Nollywood Travel Film Festival goes to Greece

After the massive success of the Nollywood Travel Film Festival 2022 in Athens, Greece, the vibrant and iconic city is set to host Africa’s most significant and foremost travel film festival again.

Festival founder, Mykel Parish Ajaere, disclosed that this year’s edition of NTFF would hold from May 7 through to May 14, under the theme, The Future is Nollywood.

The NTFF has emerged as a unique vision strategically geared towards promoting films by Nigerians living across the globe to new and existing global audiences to create new market places for Nigerian cinema.

“We are excited to be returning to Athens, Greece after the successful 2022 edition. The vision is to provide a platform for Nollywood films to be screened to people from other races, cultures and backgrounds and we are glad that we have been able to achieve that and much more especially providing the much needed link between Nollywood and other industries,’’ said Mykel Parish.

Speaking on the development, the Nigerian Ambassador to Greece, Opunimi Akinkugbe, said she was pleased that the festival was not only returning to Greece after the successful 2022 edition, but that the conversation between the Greek and the Nigerian film industry is deepening through the platform that the festival has provided.

“We are very pleased that the conversations between the Greek and Nigerian film industry are deepening, and we look forward to the 2023 edition of the Nollywood Travel Film Festival, following last year’s huge success. We thank Mr. Parish for his efforts to connect the two film industries. Promoting Cultural exchanges between Nigerians and Greeks remain a priority for our mission,’’ the Ambassador said.

Also, the Ambassador of Greece to Nigeria Ambassador Ioannis Plotas has commended the NTFF founder for his selfless efforts in improving the cultural relationship between the two countries.

“I will like to praise you for this kind of initiative, and we reassure you that the embassy will always be here to help, to give a boost not only to our country but in general to strengthen our bilateral relations. The essential ingredient for that is the cultural tie between our countries. Thank you for taking the Nollywood Travel Film Festival to Greece,’’ the Ambassador said.  

The NTTF has been held in cities such as Atlanta, Hamburg, Athens, London, Berlin, New York, Glasgow, Helsinki, Oslo, Toronto, and Dublin. The Athens edition has the partnership of the Hellenic Film Commission, the Greek Film Commission, Harlem Entertainment, Lagom pasta, Blankpage Advertising, Showtime Productions, Directors Guild of Nigeria, Association of Movie Producers, with support from the Embassy of Nigeria in Greece, and the Embassy of Greece in Nigeria.
