The year is gradually coming to an end but that doesn’t mean you have to let up on your style game. As any fashion enthusiast will tell you, everyday is a good day to look good. In this light, as a gift to you, I have sifted through different stylish bits of advice, talked to several experts and have pulled together some tips to ensure you put your best foot forward always.

Some of them are practical tips, some you know already but others, you just might be hearing for the first time.

Know Your Body: Know your measurements before you shop. Not only will it cut down the time you spend trying on clothes, it will help you choose outfits that fit your body perfectly. Among the most important body parts to measure are your bust, chest, hips and waist.

Don’t Go Too Tight Or Too Loose: Dressing for your size doesn’t just mean nixing clothes that are too tight from your wardrobe. It also means you shouldn’t wear clothes that are too baggy. Both will make you look frumpy.

The Peplum Effect: Worried about your waist or hips? Try peplum for an instant slimming effect. It flatters every figure and does wonders at hiding unsightly bulges.

Organize Your Closet: This way you’ll be able to see what you own (and actually wear it). Separate your clothes the way that suits you best. Figure out what can be folded neatly and what needs to be hanged. Use storage shelves to store your bags and shoes.

Wear Fitting Underwear: I cannot stress the importance of this enough. A lot of us go about with badly fitted supports. Get a bra fit today and be transformed. It will make your clothes hang better and be infinitely more comfortable. To ensure your underwear last longer, it is advisable to hand wash always.

If You Feel Uncomfortable, You Probably Look Uncomfortable: Your confidence is affected by what you’re wearing, as sad of a thought as that might be. So if you’re feeling self-conscious about your outfit, you’re likely to be tugging at it or double-checking that everything is in place all day and night.

Less Really Is More: Indecent exposure isn’t classy. Remember ladies, a little bit of mystery is alluring. Some things are better left to the imagination.

Ready-To-Wear Ensembles: Have ready-to-wear outfits hanging in your wardrobe. They will come in handy when you either have absolutely nothing to wear or when you’re in a rush to pull an outfit together. It’s better to have a few for different occasions- one corporate, one casual and one glamourous look. You can thank me for this tip later.

Stock Up On Basics: Know your essentials and stock up. These include white and black blouses, a little black dress, high heels, blue jeans and anything else that has a central role in your style. Remember, these looks are timeless so investing in certain items that are more expensive but higher in quality may be wiser because they will last longer.

Go Nude When You Wear White: White is a tricky colour to wear, so if you’re wearing white pants, don’t wear black or white underwear because it will still be visible through your pants. Instead, buy nude underwear. It’s more discreet.

With all these in mind, don’t forget to dress age appropriate and occasion appropriate. There is nothing worse than turning up at an event with the wrong outfit that doesn’t fit.
