Matthew Gallagher: From humble beginnings to self-taught programmer

Many know him as the man behind the world’s first-of-its-kind watch club, ‘Watch Gang’ but not many are aware of his prior life, his other talents, and what events led him to develop Watch Gang.

Gallagher had high hopes for himself from the start. He was raised in poverty and even homeless at one point.

While growing up in such an environment, he knew he needed money and a way out, an escape from the poverty-stricken life he led.

Like all people who need some sort of guidance to show them the way, Matthew had his uncle show him the direction he could adopt.

He learned to code using a computer his uncle gave him and became a highly skilled self-taught programmer.

Matthew dropped out of the University of Cincinnati at the age of 22 and began coding full-time at a design agency.

He had made his life comfortable working as a full-time programmer.

He also pursued acting at that time and moved to Los Angeles, working simultaneously on freelance coding work.

He had the privilege to work with Nike and Johnson and Johnson as a freelance programmer. He had two smashing careers and a content life.

Things took a turn for him when he realized his father was ill, compelling him to leave his acting dreams behind and move back to support his father.

Matthew’s story could have concluded here had he not been a restless overachiever.

He was making $90k/year as a software engineer which later changed to $120k as he shifted to a new job in San Francisco.

Later, he initiated his advertising agency in L.A. and also began shooting a film in France despite some setbacks.

Matthew’s story depicts his inspiring journey and transformation from being homeless to achieving so much in life and escaping the toxicity that surrounded him since he was born.

Today, he also repays the community through his commendable humanitarian services and plays his part in eradicating drug abuse, poverty, and homelessness in America.
