In an era where fast fashion often blurs the lines of craftsmanship and identity, personal style is paramount as the art of bespoke tailoring stands as a timeless beacon of elegance. Hence, a quiet revolution is unfolding in Nigeria’s fashion ecosystem, particularly the menswear space, with one stitch at a time.
Against this backdrop, renowned bespoke designer Adetayo Adeyeye, widely known as Taryor Gabriels, led an advanced tailoring masterclass titled “Curated Excellence in Suit-Making,” an impactful moment of professional development and industry mentorship.
The event, organised in collaboration with Christian Designers Hub, and held at The Bridge by Obsidian, a prominent creative venue known for hosting fashion, technology, and innovation-driven gatherings attracted over 70 designers and professional tailors, many of whom traveled from different parts of the country to learn directly from one of Africa’s emerging authorities in bespoke tailoring.
Far from being just another networking event, the meeting served as a convergence of minds dedicated to elevating standards within Nigeria’s fashion ecosystem. Highlights of the program was a live garment critique session, where designers were invited to bring their completed suits for professional evaluation.
Serving as the lead critic and evaluator during this session, Taryor Gabriels carefully reviewed each garment and provided detailed feedback to participating designers. The critique process focused on key aspects of high-level tailoring craftsmanship, including: Structural balance and silhouette, Lapel proportion and finishing, Sleeve pitch and armhole construction, Fabric choice and garment architecture and Overall craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Participants described the experience as transformational, noting that receiving direct critique from an experienced bespoke designer provided rare insight into the technical standards required for globally competitive tailoring.
As the global spotlight continues to shine on African fashion, moments like the “Curated Excellence in Suit-Making” masterclass serve as a reminder that behind every great garment is a network of visionaries committed to excellence. And with leaders like Taryor Gabriels at the helm, the future of suit-making in Nigeria looks not only promising but impeccably tailored.
