Zenith Women Basketball League defending champions, Dolphins of Lagos, proved to their supporters on Saturday that they are ready to reclaim this year’s title when they defeated hard fighting Delta Force of Asaba 83 to 65 in the ongoing Final Eight play off holding at the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.

The Ochuko Okworogun-tutored girls also defeated IGP Queens yesterday to set up today’s match-up against Plateau Rocks of Jos.

Speaking after their second victory yesterday, Okworogun said they are taking the matches as they come, without actually focusing on any particular team since none of the teams is a push over.

In other matches played so far, the Nigeria Customs beat AHIP Queens of Kano 68 to 44, while First Bank defeated Benue Princess and Plateau Rocks lost 37-45 to IGP Queens.

Plateau Rocks Captain, Gloria Umeh, blamed their loss to fatigue, saying they travelled a long distance before arriving Lagos for the games.

“We came from Jos and arrived late hence we did not have enough rest before facing the Police ladies. We hope to make it up in the remaining matches,” she said.

Hannah Makanju, the captain of the Police team dismissed her opponents excuses, she declared that she and her teammates worked hard for their victory having trained hard for the finals.
